Guaranty Bank & Trust wins Mississippi Main Street Association for Outstanding Historic Rehabilitation Project
Guaranty Bank & Trust, Greenwood, MS
Serving as an anchor for downtown Greenwood architecture, the Wilson Bank Building sat vacant for 10 years until Guaranty Bank decided to open a Greenwood branch. Bank executives found their home in this historic 1916 Beaux Arts structure and quickly enlisted the help of Belinda Stewart Architects to begin plans for rehabilitation.
The overall goal was to restore the exterior and interior while sensitively inserting the modernized retail branding for the Guaranty Bank & Trust Company and implementing ADA and energy retrofits. The masonry fac;ade was restored, the large windows and stained glass transoms were repaired, and the original mosaic tile floor, plaster beamed ceilings, and glazed brick vault were exposed and re-imagined for the bank spaces. New glass offices were inserted as to not touch the original walls and ceiling, along with full interior finish upgrades.
This iconic piece of Greenwood history is no longer vacant but is now a vibrant, modern symbol of commerce in the Mississippi Delta.
