Walthall Courthouse Square wins MHT award
“With an incredible partnership that included the Village of Walthall, the Mississippi Department of Transportation, the Mississippi Development Authority, the Webster County Board of Supervisors, The Enterprise of Mississippi, Belinda Stewart Architects and the Henderson family, the citizens of Walthall have transformed the tragic loss of the Webster County Courthouse to fire into a community-building experience. Key elements of the historic courthouse, including the perimeter plinth wall, were saved from demolition and repurposed to become Walthall Courthouse Square. Stairs that originally led to the courthouse now lead to the park lawn, which is used for events such as Walthall Trade Days. Village Hall, located in the former county jail, and the Henderson Community Center are adjacent to the square.”
