Bay St. Louis Senior Center Addition
The Senior Center located in Bay St. Louis is an active place for seniors to gather and socialize. Their need to expand was evident after Katrina hit the Gulf Coast. As the existing Senior Center outgrew its original space, we guided the City of Bay Saint Louis to develop plans for two new additions. A 5700 square foot addition to the north includes a large multi-purpose area complete with a walking track, additional classrooms, an exercise room, and a new computer lab. The 2,200 square foot addition to the west includes a laundry facility, a nurse’s station, additional storage and a gift shop to sell seniors’ artwork to supplement their income.
The Senior Center has become a source of pride in the community not only because of its temporary shelter use during Hurricane Katrina but what it currently does for its seniors of Hancock County. Careful consideration was taken to design the additions to complement the existing design and also allow the building to compliment the identity of Bay St. Louis through a sense of artistic eclectic southern hospitality.
