Forensics Facilities Mississippi State Hospital Building #63 Renovation
Forensics Facilities Mississippi State Hospital Building #63, Whitfield, MS
The renovation of Building #63 for Mississippi State Hospital’s Forensics Facility replaces their existing building and doubles the capacity of patients. Through a study and evaluation of several potential buildings on the campus, meetings with the Mississippi Department of Mental Health and Staff, building #63 (along with a 3-story addition on the west wing) was selected based on the size and layout meeting the needs and program requirements. The project was completed in two phases with a demolition phase removing most interior walls and ceilings, and the full interior and exterior renovation and construction of the addition. The facility includes six wards to accommodate various levels of acuity, each including well-lit (natural and artificial lighting) dayrooms, patient rooms, nurses’ stations, and other required amenities. Other features throughout the facility are dining rooms with pantries on each floor, activity rooms, group meeting rooms, visitor rooms, medical exam rooms, intake area, and 20 staff offices. Exterior work included the complete restoration of all steel windows, masonry
restoration, sitework, secure sally port and two-day yards.
